Honoring Basic Human Needs

Where care becomes connection and transformation.

Spiritual communities are at their best when people feel safe, valued, and truly seen. Honoring Basic Human Needs in Spiritual Community explores how attending to core human needs—such as belonging, meaning, acknowledgment, agency and safety —is not separate from spiritual life, but essential to it. When these needs are acknowledged rather than assumed, communities become places where individuals can show up authentically and where transformation happens.

Grounded in reflective practice and practical insight, this session will help leaders and members recognize the subtle ways unmet needs shape behavior, conflict, engagement, and burnout. Participants will learn how simple shifts in culture, communication, and expectations can create environments where people don’t just participate—they thrive.

Ideal for clergy, lay leaders, ministry teams, small-group facilitators, and anyone committed to creating spaces where every person is respected, supported, and invited into growth.

Participants will leave with language and tools to nurture communities that are not only spiritually vibrant, but humanly compassionate—places where care is not an assumption, but a practice.
