Many of us know the old hierarchical model of leadership — and many of us also feel it straining under the weight of what the world is asking of us right now. Something else is emerging, not just in our communities but everywhere: leadership that is shared, distributed, and co-created by the whole community rather than carried by one person alone.

This kind of leadership can be rich, engaging, deeply creative. It also asks more of us: more responsibility, more accountability, more willingness to be vulnerable with one another.
